Why You Should Get A PC Touchpad For Your Desktop
For desktop users, the mouse has always been seen as the primary form of navigation within the graphical user interface (GUI). After all, the mouse started out years back, as a way to move between windows within an operating system; making huge gains over the limitations that users constantly faced with older systems that had a keyboard only.
Fortunately, the mouse bought plenty of consumer interest in business to computer manufacturers. In essence, the PC mouse had an unprecedented influence in the way that the general public was able to use computers.
When notebooks really started to take off, it was clear that the mouse wasn't really an option, especially for travelling business users that needed a solution to navigate all of the pages and windows that they were working on. The answer to this problem was a solution that would stick with notebooks until the present day: the trackpad (or touchpad). However, with this brand-new touchpad technology; PCs never really got a bit of the action, as they were always confined to using the mouse.
Fortunately for computer manufacturers, they needn't have worried about producing some kind of trackpad device for the PC for a long time, as users generally preferred to use mouse with their desktop PCs. Even during the computer boom of the 1980s and 1990s, the trackpad was constantly viewed as a workaround to the mouse and not essentially a competitor. After all, this is proved by the availability and usage of mice with notebook computers. Consumers simply didn't want to use the trackpad when they didn't have to.
However, recent advancements in trackpad technology have not only surpassed the ergonomics stylings of computer mice, but have also improved the functionality of such devices by at least fourfold. The way that this has been carried out is through one simple ideology: gestures.
If you are trying to decide whether or not to purchase an touchpads, it helps to think of it as a luxury item instead of a necessity. It's perfectly okay to buy something just because it is fun or is cool, so long as you do not expect it to replace your computer or laptop because it isn't really set up for that. Even the iPhone has most of the same capabilities as the touchpads so you don't need to buy it because it is unique. Still, the high resolution screen of the touchpads makes watching videos and browsing the web a much better experience than you will get from a phone. Similarly, it can be more fun to play with the Multi-Touch on your touchpads than to use the typical touchpad of a notebook computer.
The introduction of larger trackpad surface area, and gesture technology, has allowed the average computer user to receive a much greater experience of their computer and its technology and software, with the use of the trackpad over a computer mouse.
With all of the praising being done about the new PC touchpad technology, it is essential to bear in mind that PC touchpad devices are not without their faults. Sometimes, certain computer users (i.e. graphical designers) will feel the need to use a much more accurate pointing device, i.e. the computer mouse. This being said, the vast majority of the public will find that they are able to have a much better desktop PC experience with a PC touchpad.
Using a PC touchpad feels more natural, and therefore the consumer computer experience is improved vastly. With newer operating system software, having a stand-alone trackpad next your desktop keyboard can really make the difference in providing you with the ability to use advanced gestures within day-to-day activities. For example, switching between pages, windows and applications, can be carried out with a simple flick of a few fingers on a trackpad, without having to reach for the mouse.
